White House calls Serbia, Kosovo on mutual recognition

The United States call on Kosovo and Serbia to put aside extremist rhetoric and work on an agreement cantered on mutual recognition. 

In a statement issued on Monday marking 20th anniversary after the end of NATO bombing campaign against Serbia, White House Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere said that both sides must recommit to a peaceful and prosperous future for all of their citizens. “This requires putting aside extremist rhetoric and historical revisionism,” he said.

The White House called for dialogue between the neighbors “aimed at normalizing relations” and urged Pristina and Belgrade to “redouble efforts to work toward a comprehensive agreement centered on mutual recognition and immediately remove barriers to progress.”

“The US are ready to help during this process, but it is up to Kosovo and Serbia to take steps forward,” the White House said and urged Pristina and Belgrade to act now and not leave open issues for future generation,” the statement reads.
